Getting Inspired

Welcome.
So glad to be back after losing my mojo this week.  I guess that happens when you are too busy.

So, today I was inspired by the challenge at Splitcoast and a Placemats Pinterest board.  Loved this photo with the vintage dishes in blue (of course!) and the calligraphy around the place settings.

I began by cutting two circles using Spellbinders dies to use as masks for my one-layer card front.  I attached the masks using temporary adhesive for easy removal.  I then sprinkled 2 shades of blue Brusho over my cardstock and sprayed with water to activate the Brusho paint crystals.

TIP:  I found it was best to remove the paper mask right after spraying with water so the paint saturated mask wouldn't stain the paper underneath.

When that was all dry, I applied the negative of the circle mask and stamped the script from Penny Black over that and then added the sentiment from Stamplorations.  It still felt like it needed something more so I used a pencil eraser and a lid to add some black details for interest.

That's it.  Very simple but glad I could get inspired.  Hope it lasts for this week!

Seeing Red

Meet today's card.
No blue...can you believe it?!

I was recently published in the Craft Stamper magazine and this flower stamp was a freebie with the magazine.  So pretty that I just had to make a card using it.

My MISTI came in so handy for making this card.  I stamped the flower onto scrap paper first and cut it out to make a mask as I wanted to overlap my flowers.  I stamped the first one then masked it and continued to stamp and mask all around the edge of my card.  I also embossed the flowers with clear powder so when I watercoloured my flowers, the paint wouldn't run outside the lines.  By embossing the image it creates a bit of a dam to hold the water and the ink inside the lines with no bleeding.
I then got out my Brusho and using a paint brush and water, applied colour to my flowers.
When they were all dry, I added details with a white Signo gel pen to brighten them up a bit and add some interest.  I stamped the sentiment and added the hand drawn border.

Scene It

Happy Saturday.
So happy to be playing along with the Inspiration Challenge at Splitcoast this a.m.
Today, we are being inspired by the Miracle Suit Website.  So many beautiful bathing suits.
When I saw the suit below, I thought of my Brushos right away.

I began by stamping the Cityscene by Tim Holtz, that I just got, onto my watercolour paper  with Memento black ink and heat embossed the image with clear powder.  Next, I sprinkled on some Brushos and sprayed with water to create the sky.  So easy with such colourful results.

Helpful Hint:  For those of you that are not familiar with Brusho, check out this link:

Good Times

Morning.
A quick card this morning as I am playing along with the CAS challenge at Splitcoast.

Isn't this a great flower.  So many different colours could be used to add interest but I went for the sunny yellows and orange.
I stamped the flower with Versamark ink onto my watercolour paper, then heat embossed with white.  I  I sprinkled Brusho over that and sprayed with water to watch the magic happen.  Love the rich tones it created with little to no effort.
When it was all dry, I stamped the sentiment using my MISTI.  It is such a super tool for stamping over a painted surface as it takes a few times stamped to get a nice, crisp sentiment image.

Love Life

Happy Saturday!

Finally had time to make a card this week.  Sometimes life just get so busy and I miss out on my crafting time!
Today, I am being inspired by the Challenge at Splitcoast from the Shabby Creek CottageBlog.  Fun ideas and here is the photo that inspired my card:

I began by creating the background using Brusho.  Many of you know about Brusho and the wonderful colours you can achieve from just spraying with water.
(Many examples of using Brusho on my previous blog posts)
When the bkg. was dry, I used my Misti and Memento ink to stamp the sentiment which is one of my newest purchases from STAMPlorations.  LOVE, love the Misti for repeated, dark stamping over a painted surface.  The flowers from Hero Arts, were stamped with the Misti again then watercoloured using more Brusho, water and a paint brush.
To add extra interest and depth to the painted surface I stamped the script from Penny Black along the side.  I just filled in some of the empty areas perfectly.

Hello Hydrangea

Happy Saturday.

I really love how this card turned out using Brushos to watercolour my flowers.  I was surprised at how easy it was to get the colour variations that I wanted for the flowers.
Playing along with the Inspiration Challenge at Splitcoast and this Pinterest photo:

This card also gave me a chance to use my new MISTI.  Wow...amazing stamping product...LOVE!!
Sometimes, when stamping onto watercolour paper, the lines are not clearly stamped because of the texture of the paper.  By using my MISTI, I was able to ink my stamp a few times and stamp a perfect, dark black impression.

I began by stamping the flower with black Memento ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  By embossing it, the raised areas act like little dams to hold the colour while painting.
I sprinkled a bit of purple and blue Brusho onto my acrylic block and picked up the colour using a wet paint brush and applied to my watercolour paper.  I found it helpful to wet the area that I wanted to paint with water first to help the colour blend when applied.

When my paper was dry, I stamped the sentiment with more black Memento ink.

Change

Here is today's card.

The theme at Splitcoast today was Graduation.  Since I don't know anyone who is graduating, I made a card with this great sentiment which I think would work great for a grad.

I began by using an old Distress wheel from Stampin Up (sorry I don't know what it is called) and rolled it over my Versamark pad then onto my 90 lb. watercolour paper.  I then heat embossed it with white embossing powder and sprinkled Brusho in orange and yellow over the top; sprayed with a generous amount of water and let the colours blend together.
When my paper was dry, I stamped the flowers from Magenta and the sentiment from Hampton Art using Stazon ink.
(The sentiment must be an old one as it was in a $4. bin at Michaels)

Smiling

You make me smile!
Playing along with a challenge at Splitcoast; a clean and simple card in some fun colours.

In April, I attended Scrapfest with a friend and picked up this fun little stamp made by Rosewood called Paper Swirl.  I inked it up by once again, colouring directly onto the rubber with Memento makers, sprayed with water and stamped.  I did that twice.  Added some splatters too.
The stamp is small, so I scored both sides and between the stamped panels for interest.
The sentiment is so fun; from The Cat's Pajamas.  Stamped that with Memento black ink and cut it into a banner attached by using pop dots.
